Search engines generally operate through two sets of ranking signals: one for on-page optimization, and one for off-page optimization. On-page optimization is exactly what it sounds like—it involves optimizing everything that you see on your website. When optimizing your on-page SEO, you want to have all of the elements on your site be as appealing and helpful as possible to search engines, (like Google), and to your end user.
Two of the most important SEO elements to optimize are your page titles and meta descriptions. You’ll want to make sure both of these on-page elements are informative and written within the available character limits to show up fully on the SERP.
Images don’t only make your site look visually appealing; image optimization is very important to your on-page SEO as well. Since Google isn’t capable of seeing our images itself, it’s important to include descriptive image alt tags that let Google know what images you’re displaying on your site.
While your site content is first and foremost meant to help your end user, search engines like Google and Bing also read through your content just like a person would. To have your on-page content optimized for both your users and search engines, make sure your content is as relevant as possible to the keywords you want to rank for.
Your H (header, or headline) tags range from H1 to H6 and signal to search engines which topics your content is focused around.
Lastly, you’ll want to make sure you’re using internal links on your site that link to other pages of your website. Not only are they helpful to your end user to navigate your site, they also help search engines crawl your site easily.
