A complete guide to YouTube SEO in 2018. This video will show you EXACTLY how to rank your videos in YouTube.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this action-packed guide:

First, I’ll show you the right (and wrong way) to optimize your video titles. I call this “Front-Loading”, and it’s something I do almost every time I upload a video.

Then, for our second tip, you’ll see how to increase the number of “Video Engagement Signals” your video gets. This is a key video SEO ranking signal.

I’ll then show you how to use video tags. Specifically, you’ll see how The TAB Formula helps you optimize your videos correctly.

Next up, we have CTR Magnet Thumbnails. Does your click-through-rate impact rankings? Yup! And optimized thumbnails (especially if you use CTR Magnet Thumbnails) are one of the fastest ways to get more clicks on your videos.

Then, I’ll dive into video descriptions. Most people sleep on their video’s description, but I’ve found it makes a small but significant dent in your video rankings.

Our 6th YouTube SEO tip is to increase the length of your videos. It’s a fact that longer videos rank better in YouTube. How long should your videos be, exactly? My data has the answer.

Moving right along to tip number 7, we have a cool little hack to get more people to click on your video. The secret? Optimizing your video title for SEO… AND click-through-rate.

Next up, we have “Rank in Suggested Video”. Suggested video is a big part of getting more views on YouTube.

Last up, we have “Turning Donkeys Into Unicorns”. This is one of my favorite ways of boosting audience retention – a key SEO ranking signal.

  1. Watching through your video and it amused me that a thumbnail I have prepared had 40 characters worth of text. 28 of them are the livestream title though so I'm happy enough to give it a pass this once ☺️

  2. Thanks for the tips. I shortened the amount of tags in my videos and made them more focused. I also had my series as the first portion of the title – now I have the subject as the first portion of the title. It looks more inviting. I also learned a lot about thumbnails and look forward to trying those tips.

I don't have a lot of traffic on my channel, but I'm already seeing a little bump, even on my old videos. Thanks again!

  3. Great info! I just got back from GrowWithVideoLive with Sean Cannell. They should have invited you as a guest speaker. I'm definitely putting these strategies to work on my channel.

  4. hi thanks for the video. I have a question when i click on the page source of the related video for suggested video, it brings out a page with a lot of codes and not like you have it in your video. What am i doing wrongly?

  5. Hi Brian! You asked what your viewers were going to do first after watching your video. Well, I'm going to scrap my vid and do it again. Then work on my title and description before publishing. Many thanks for your help! Lauren (In Alaska)

  6. Amazing tips ! Title, tag and description tips were extremely helpful. Haven’t started a channel yet, just doing research on ranking and SEO before I do.

  7. Hands down the best SEO video! I love how your tips are backed by data, research and analysis. I'll be watching this video over and over again when I need a reminder.

  8. Do you find there is a max number of relevant keywords to use? Should you stop at a certain number, regardless of the fact that it's a relevant part of your video?

  9. Great SEO tips, Brian. Regarding thumbnails… you suggested to stay away from red, white and black because those colors are used in the YouTube logo and word art. I'm using white for my FRZTV channel thumbnail text because it seems to stand out better for words and I see you doing that as well. I also noticed you included some black and the YouTube red logo in this particular video's thumbnail. So were you just suggesting to stay away from red, white and black colors for the background or when those take up the majority of the thumbnail?

  10. Thanks so much Brian for giving so much value for free! I will leave comments on all your videos because you rock!

  11. Great tips and right on point! Subbed as I do need help with ranking and views! Will apply strategies in my new videos and will try to optimize my older videos!
